LA VERNE, Calif. --- Jack Trush tied his career high with four goals as eighth-ranked UC Irvine defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 9-7, at the Inland Empire Classic in La Verne Sunday.
Ryan Warde and Bryant Joudrie added two goals each for the 'Eaters, who leveled their season record at 2-2.
Joudrie, Jon Polos, Trush and Warde scored goals in the first quarter as UCI took a 4-2 lead.
Trush scored a pair of goals in the second quarter and Warde's score with 3:31 left gave the Anteaters a 7-3 lead.
The Sagehens scored the last two goals of the period to close within 7-5 at halftime and pulled even at 7-7 on a goal by Mark Hallman with 1:55 remaining in the third quarter.
Trush put the 'Eaters up for good at 8-7 with 1:38 left in the third and Joudrie closed out the scoring with 6:22 remaining in the game.
Matej Matijevic recorded 12 saves in goal for UCI, which faces Whittier College at 3:00 p.m.
