Three Anteaters Named All-Conference

Irvine, Calif. -- UC Irvine had three players named to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Conference teams as voted on by the league coaches.

Junior Michael Saeta and senior Jason Agopian were named to the second team, while junior Tamir Hershko was tabbed honorable mention.

Saeta moved from setter to opposite for the last third of the season and ignited the Anteater offense. While he only averaged 1.49 kills due to his limited playing time on the right side, Saeta averaged 2.12 points per game. He led the conference in ace average overall and was second in MPSF action, firing 0.46 per set. The junior has 51 aces this year which is second most in the UCI season record books. He recorded kills in double-figures in nine of the last 11 matches, including a career-high 24 kills twice. This is Saeta's first all-conference distinction.

Agopian, who was a first-team honoree last season, averaged 1.95 kills and 2.57 points per set in conference action. The middle blocker owned a .403 hitting percentage and 0.82 blocking average in MPSF matches as a senior.

Hershko has been sidelined for part of the season with a league injury, but still averaged a team-best 4.07 kill and 4.43 points average against league opponents. The outside hitter also averaged 1.97 digs per set. Hershko was named a first-team All-MPSF and first team All-American in 2015.

No. 14 UC Irvine will battle No. 1 BYU Saturday (Apr. 16) in a MPSF quarterfinal match at Smith Fieldhouse beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT.
