Manoa, Hawai'i – UC Irvine (12-5) opened up the first of two matches on the day with a 6-1 win over the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors (1-13).

The Anteaters earned the doubles point and all singles points except at flight six to start conference play with a Big West win. The 'Eaters clinched the doubles point as duo Sebastian Heim and Nico Mertens won 6-2 in the No. 3 spot and Jonathan Hammel and Luca Marquard took flight two 6-2.

No. 4 Tyler Pham quickly won the first singles point 6-1, 6-0, putting UCI on top 2-0. Hawai'i answered back with a flight six victory.

The Anteaters pressed forward in the remaining matches coming out on top as No. 3 Marquard defeated Marcel Chan 6-4, 6-4 and nationally ranked No. 78 Heim defeated Felix Alber 6-2, 6-4 at flight one. No. 2 Mertens finished strong with the 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 win after Hawai'i forced the match tie-breaker with a second set win. Hammel capped it off for the 'Eaters defeating Spencer Travalino 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

UC Irvine continues with conference play today (March 24) against UC Riverside in Manoa, Hawai'i at 6:00 p.m.
