Women's Tennis Suffers 6-1 Loss to Long Beach State in a Black and Blue Rivalry Match

Long Beach, Calif. -- UC Irvine headed up to Long Beach State for a Black and Blue rivalry match but was overpowered by the 49ers in a 6-1 loss at the Rhodes Tennis Center.

UCI (1-6) started strong in doubles, but could not close out the sets giving up the doubles point and Long Beach State (4-2) took the early 1-0 lead.

The 49ers continued to press hard in singles with sweeps at Nos. 1,2 and 5 spots. Stephanie Hazell and Mazy Watrous each came back with a win in the second set forcing a third but ultimately fell in the final set.

The 'Eaters gained a point when Andrea Duva won the tie-breaker in her second set and was able to polish off the win in the third set.

The Anteaters continue on the road with a 12:00 PM match at the University of San Diego .
