UC Irvine Competes in Palm Desert This Weekend

UC Irvine is in Palm Desert this weekend to compete in the eighth annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club.  The par-72 course measures 7,322 yards.

Twenty teams and 16 individuals are entered in the three-day tournament that runs Friday through Sunday.  Eighteen holes are scheduled for each day, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

In addition to UCI and Wyoming, the field includes UALR, Cal Poly, CSUN, Colorado, Denver, Gonzaga, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Old Dominion, Oral Roberts, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, Southern Utah, TCU, UC Riverside, UT Arlington and Texas Tech.

Coach Paul Smolinski's UCI lineup includes sophomore Jonathan Young, junior Bryan Shin, sophomore Johnny Hyun, senior Jacob Schulze and redshirt freshman Chris Parkinson.

The Anteaters are coming off a third-place finish in their last tournament, The Farms Intercollegiate, at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe Feb. 8-9.

Young finished 10th at that tourney with a 54-hole score of 219 while Shin placed 14th at 222.
