IRVINE, Calif. --- Third-ranked USC took control with nine goals in the second quarter as the Trojans topped UC Irvine, 20-4, in a non-conference game at Anteater Aquatics Complex Sunday afternoon.
UCI (7-7) trailed just 3-1 after one quarter, but USC scored eight straight to go up 11-1 and eventually led 12-2 at halftime.
Sophomore Jack Trush scored goals in the first and second quarters for the 'Eaters while junior Ryan Warde added a pair in the fourth period. Trush leads the team with 27 goals on the season and Warde follows with 19.
Junior goalie Matej Matijevic had 12 saves in just over three quarters of work and he now has 191 stops in 14 starts this year.
Matteo Morelli led the Trojans (14-1) with four goals.
UCI plays its inaugural game in the Golden Coast Conference Friday night, hosting Pacific at 7:00 at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
