UC Irvine Claims Doubles Consolation Title at SDSU Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – UC Irvine sophomore Luis Lopez and junior Luca Marquard closed out the three-day SDSU Fall Invitational by winning the Flight 1 doubles consolation championship Sunday at San Diego State's Aztec Tennis Center. 

Lopez and Marquard defeated Grand Canyon's Justin Cvitanovic and Valentin Lang, 8-4, in the final. After losing their first match on Friday, the Anteater duo proceeded to win three in a row.

Freshman Moritz Geis, who picked up victories over individuals from No. 12 USC and Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, was unable to advance to the Flight 1 singles final as he fell to eventual champion Lorenzo Fucile of Grand Canyon, 6-2, 7-6 (3). 

UCI will return to action at the ITA Regional Championships in Malibu, Calif., Oct. 20-24.
