IRVINE, Calif. -- Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Newsom has been named Buffalo Wild Wings Anteater of the Week after holding opponents scoreless in two games last week.
After a 0-0 draw with Long Beach State on Friday, the Anteaters beat UC Riverside 2-0 last Sunday, which was Newsom's sixth shutout of the year. She now ranks second in the Big West and 15th in the nation in shutouts. Newsom recorded four saves in each game, currently holding a 200-minute scoreless streak. Newsom leads the nation in minutes played, at 1,311:46 and ranks 28th in the country and third in the Big West in goal against average with a 0.62 mark.
The 'Eaters are idle this week and will return to action Oct. 13 at UC Davis. UCI arrives back at Anteater Stadium October 16th to take on CSUN at 2:00 p.m.
