Marquard Bounces Back with Consolation Victory

TULSA, Okla. – UC Irvine junior Luca Marquard won his pre-qualifying singles consolation match Sunday at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.  

Marquard bounced back from Saturday's first-round defeat to conclude his first singles competition of the fall season with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Marquette's Alvaro Verdu.  

Junior Sebastian Heim, who is 79th in the ITA Preseason Rankings, will be up next as he begins action in qualifying singles tomorrow at 8 a.m. (CT). Heim will square off against No. 118 Sameer Kumar of Stanford in the first round.  

The second and third rounds will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 4, with 16 spots in the main draw on the line. 

Heim and Marquard will also team up in the qualifying doubles draw as they are set to take on Alex Sendegeya/Bjorn Thomson of Texas Tech tomorrow at 1 p.m. (CT).
