Box Score Davis, Calif. – UC Irvine suffered a 74-61 defeat against UC Davis at The Pavilion Thursday.
The Anteaters were led by freshman Andee Ritter with 18 points in her second career game. Ritter went 6-11 from the floor, including three three-pointers in 26 minutes off the bench. Forward Mokun Fajemisin totaled 15 points, a team-high eight rebounds and two blocks, while forward Mckenzie Piper had 10 points. Guard Raelyn Cheung-Sutton recorded six points, six rebounds and five assists.
Four UC Davis players scored in double-figures led by Morgan Bertsch with 20 points and seven rebounds. Pele Gianotti had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Alyson Doherty tallied 13 points and three rebounds. and Celia Marfone added 11 points.
UC Davis opened the game hitting 5 of their first six shots, all three-pointers to jump out to a 15-2 lead at 4:54.
After UC Davis held a 23-6 lead at the end of the first period, UCI came alive in the second quarter out-scoring the Aggies 24-9. A three-pointer by Pele Gianotti at 7:09 put UCD on top by 19 (30-11) before UCI would close the half on a 19-2 run, which included eight points and two blocks from Mokun Fajemeisin to narrow the margin to just 32-20 at the break.
The Aggies would use the free throw line, going 11-14 to take a 53-42 advantage at the end of the third period.
Morgan Bertsch took over the fourth quarter scoring the Aggie's first 10 points to extend the lead to 63-47 with 8:06 to play.
UCI falls to 3-14 overall and 0-3 in the Big West. UC Davis remains undefeated (3-0) in league action and improves to 10-6 overall.
UCI will return home to host Long Beach State Saturday (Jan. 16) at 2:00 p.m. at the Bren Events Center.
