Anteaters Produce Second Straight 1-0 Victory

MORAGA, Calif. --- Tatyana Garrett was on the scene again for the match's only goal in a second straight 1-0 victory on Sunday over Colorado State to finish off the Gael Classic in Moraga.
Garrett entered the match in the 25th minute, and five minutes later was sliding through the defense onto a Clarissa Robles lead pass to shovel home the opener in the 30th minute.
Colorado State (1-2-1) had the first chance in the 21st minute earning a penalty kick after a Haley O'Brien foul in the box. Mikayla Arao's attempt sailed wide keeping the match scoreless early.
The 'Eaters (3-2-1) continued its defensive stand through the half allowing just two shots in the first 45.
The defense carried through the full 90 for the 1-0 victory and third shutout in a row for UC Irvine.
Garrett's goal turned out to be the third game-winner of her career and second in as many matches. Keeper Corey Tobin made two saves running her scoreless streak to 312 minutes something Head Coach Scott Juniper couldn't help but acknowledge.
"Corey and Tats are both doing well and deserve recognition for their performances, but they will be the first to say that they cannot do what they do without the rest of their teammates."
A few of those supporting cast were Andrea Mensen, Claudia Lopez, and Brittany Nguyen who all put in full 90s. Clarissa Robles added an assist, her first of the season following eight she had in 2014.
"We are getting better each game. The spirit is strong, the team are applying new layers to their game each time we play and they are pushing each other to be better."
UCI has strung together three matches without a defeat or a goal allowed. It will really be put to the test next weekend with a trip to Oregon to face Portland (Fri. Sept. 11) and Washington (Sun. Sept. 13).
