COLLEGE STATION, Tex. --- UC Irvine's Texas trip hit a snag in the opener with a 4-0 loss to fourth-ranked Texas A&M Friday evening in College Station.
Texas A&M (3-0-0) wasted little time with a goal in the third minute to take the 1-0 lead. Mikaela Harvey wove her way through the Anteater defense and fired into the right side of the net.
The Aggies extended the lead in the 21st minute on a lifted shot by Haley Pounds just over the outstretched Corey Tobin to make it 2-0.
The two-goal margin stood at the half, as did 17 Texas A&M shots. UC Irvine (1-2-0) got its first shot early in the second half on a header wide by Noel Baham.
The 'Eaters mustered three total shots, two on target from Nayeli Requejo and Elizabeth Hutchison which came against substitute goalkeeper Mia Hummel in the 65th and 89th minutes.
TAMU added goals by Kate Hajdu, who cleaned up a scramble in the box in the 65th minute, and Claudette Lassandro, a sharp finish in the six-yard box in the 81st minute, to complete the 4-0 victory for the Aggies and remain unbeaten.
Corey Tobin was under fire throughout the match saving seven shots as TAMU hoisted up 28 shots.
The Anteaters do have some unfinished business to attend to in Texas taking on Abilene Christian on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 8:00 a.m.
