IRVINE, Calif. --- Four talented newcomers highlight the incoming class of recruits for head coach Jeff Perkins and the UC Irvine women's track & field/cross country program.

"We are very happy with the addition of Lisa Vasquez in the distance area, as well as Michelle Norman and Brandy and Barbara Coward in the jumps, sprints and throws," Perkins said.  "Each one of these young women brings an added depth to our program that we have been lacking.  My staff and I look forward to having them as a part of our track & field/cross country family."

Barbara Coward (Atwater, Calif. / Buhach Colony HS)

Recorded PRs of 37-1 ¾ in the shot put and 143-1 in the discus throw at Buhach Colony High School….2015 Central California Conference champion in the shot put and discus…finished third in the discus at the 2015 San Joaquin Section Division 1 Championships and was fifth at the San Joaquin Section Masters Meet…won the discus and placed fifth in the shot put at the 2014 San Joaquin Section Division 1 Championships.


Brandy Coward (Atwater, Calif. / Buhach Colony HS)

Had high school PRs of 12.02 in the 100, 24.45 in the 200 and 56.00 in the 400…finished eighth in the 400 as a sophomore at the California State Championships…finished 15th in the 200 and 18th in the 100 at the 2014 state meet…averaged 10.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in the 2015 basketball season.


Michelle Norman (Murrieta, Calif. / Vista Murrieta HS / Univ. of Utah

Posted high school PRs of 11.90 in the 100, 19-10 ½ in the long jump and 40-6 in the triple jump…placed in three events at the CIF Division 1 Finals: fourth in the 100, first in the long jump, second in the triple jump and fourth in the 100…qualified for California State Championships in the long jump and triple jump…placed second in the triple jump at the state meet with mark of 40-6.


Lisa Vasquez (Downey, Calif. / Warren HS)

Recorded PRs in the 800, 1600 and 3200 during her senior year at Warren High School…ran 2:14.25 in the 800 to win her heat at the Mt. SAC Invitational…her 1600 time of 4:51.51 at the Masters Meet was the 14th-fastest time in California and ranked 52nd in the nation…had a top time of 10:48.25 in the 3200 at the Arcadia Invitational….placed third in the 1600 (4:53.86) at the CIF Southern Section Division I Championships and 13th at the 2015 California State Championships.
