Hayward Field – Eugene, Oregon
UC Irvine sophomore Lloyd Sicard opens competition Wednesday in the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Sicard is in lane No. 5 of the third heat in the semifinals that are scheduled to begin at 5:02 p.m. at legendary Hayward Field. The top two from each heat, plus the next two fastest, will advance to Friday's final at 5:15 p.m.
His qualifying time of 13.60 seconds ranks second-fastest among the 24 qualifiers out of the West and East Preliminary Rounds.
Wednesday's action will be shown on ESPNU/ESPN3.
Sicard registered that school-record time of 13.60 in placing second at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, May 30. He broke his previous school mark of 13.79 that he recorded at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational May 2, eclipsing the former school record that had stood for 32 years (Stan Longino, 13.80, in 1983).
Sicard won the Big West Conference title in the 110 hurdles at Riverside May 16. He has won the event in four meets this season and has been named Big West Athlete of the Week three times.
Sicard, the 2014 Big West Freshman of the Year, is the first member of the UCI track and field program to compete at the NCAA Championships since 2012, when Charles Jock won the 800-meter title in Des Moines, Iowa.
