Irvine, Calif. – UC Irvine head men's volleyball coach David Kniffin has signed a contract extension to guide the Anteater program through May 2018.
"David is a young, dynamic coach who has continued to heighten the legacy of men's volleyball here at UCI." Athletic Director Mike Izzi said. "He understands the importance teaching on and off the court and is dedicated to the pursuit of greatness for the University as a whole."
In three seasons under Kniffin, the Anteaters have won a National Championship (2013), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular season title (2015) and the MPSF Conference Tournament (2015). Kniffin was named the 2015 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Coach of the Year and has been named Volleyball Magazine Coach of the Year in 2013.
Kniffin, a UCI alumnus (BA Philosophy 2004), is 71-22 overall at the helm of the Anteaters. Under Kniffin's leadership, the Anteaters have ended the season ranked no lower than sixth and have been ranked No. 1 at some point in each of his three seasons.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to continue inspiring greatness through men's volleyball as we parallel the mission of UC Irvine," Kniffin said. "I believe in our leadership and our service to UCI and the extended community. I think the best is still to come."
