'Eaters Finish 10th at NCAA Lubbock Regional

 

LUBBOCK, Texas --- UC Irvine finished 10th in the NCAA Regional that concluded Saturday at The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.

The Anteaters shot a final-round 287 to finish with a 54-hole total of 865.  Texas claimed the regional title with a score 830.  Texas Tech (834), Duke (844), Auburn (845) and Houston (847) join the Longhorns in advancing to the NCAA Finals in Bradenton, Fla., May 29-June 3.

UCI senior Pete Fernandez fired a 1-under par 70 in the final round to finish 33rd at 215.

Junior Jacob Schulze shot a 73 and placed 39th at 216, and freshman David Kim carded a 72 and finished 46th at 217.

Freshman Jonathan Young (72) placed 69th at 226 and sophomore Bryan Shin (84) was 71st at 230.

Blair Hamilton of Houston and Clement Sordet from Texas Tech were co-medalists with three-round totals of 8-under 205.

This was the 13th NCAA regional team appearance for the 'Eaters and the first since 2010.

Coach Paul Smolinski's squad won the program's seventh Big West Conference title last month.
