IRVINE, Calif. --- The Anteaters took the morning match against Grand Canyon, 5-2, in the first of a Sunday doubleheader at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
Doubles play lasted just 22 minutes as the duos of Jonathan Hammel/Tyler Pham and Sebastian Heim/Nico Mertens relinquished just one set between the two to collect the doubles point for a 1-0, 'Eater lead over Grand Canyon (4-7).
Singles began with a fast start thanks to a 6-1, 6-0 win for No. 4 Tyler Pham. Three of the remaining singles opening sets went the 'Eaters way as Hammel snagged the third point in a sweep at No. 5.
GCU kept pace with a sweep at No. 2 singles, but late replacement, Jonathan Poon, clinched the match at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4, for the 'Eaters.
The Anteaters' crush of matches carries on to Sunday evening as it jogs down to Newport Beach Tennis Club for a 5:00 p.m. tilt with UC San Diego.
