No. 19 UCLA Overpowers UC Irvine, 83-48

Los Angeles, Calif. -- No. 19 UCLA took control early and never let up on the way to a 83-48 victory over UC Irvine at Pauley Pavilion Wednesday night.
UCLA (6-2) dominated the glass, out-rebounding UCI 59-30. The Anteaters (3-7) struggled offensively shooting 28.1 percent (18-64) from the floor and 6-14 from the free throw line. UCLA shot 46.3 percent from the floor (31-67) and 70.8 percent from the line (17-24). 42 of UCLA's points came in the paint and 27 were scored on 19 UCI turnovers.
Teirra Hicks came off the bench in the fourth quarter to knock down two three-pointers and end with nine points, joining Jenny Dee, who tied her season-high and Shereen Sutherland for the team lead in scoring. Raelyn Cheung-Sutton had a career-high seven rebounds to go with four points and three assists. Irene Chavez and Mokun Fajemisin each added five points. Fajemisin also collected six rebounds.
UCLA's Nirra Fields led all players with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Her backcourt mate Jordin Canada recorded 17 points followed by Kacy Swain with 12.
The Anteaters remained close to start the first quarter, before UCLA used a 14-3 run to end the period and take a 26-14 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Led by Jordin Canada's 10 second quarter points, UCLA opened a 47-25 advantage at the half. The duo of Canada and Nirra Fields scored 32 of the Bruins' 47 first half points
The third period was all Bruins as UCI managed just three points on a Mokun Fajemeisin basket from beyond the arc until Jenny Dee hit a jumper at 2:49 (60-30). Dee would follow with a three-pointer at 1:34 and Irene Chavez would hit a runner with five seconds to close out the scoring. UCLA would hold a 69-35 advantage.
UC Irvine will travel to San Jose State Sunday (Dec. 20) for a 2:00 p.m. game at The Events Center.
