Box Score Los Angeles, Calif. – Princeton toppled UC Irvine 83-42 in the first game of the Loyola Marymount Thanksgiving Classic held in Gersten Pavilion Friday.
The Tigers, who are recieving votes in the national poll, jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back leading 26-9 after the first period and 48-20 at the half. Princeton's Michelle Miller took over the game early dropping 14 points in the first quarter five more than the entire Anteater team.
Forward Jenny Dee came off the bench in the fourth quarter and recorded nine points, which led the Anteaters. Dee was 3-6 from the floor, hitting two three-pointers. Mckenzie Piper and Raelyn Cheung-Sutton each scored six points, while Paulina Santana added five points. Arianna Knox had a team-high five rebounds.
The Anteaters (1-3) shot 23.2 percent (16-69) from the floor and were out-rebounded 54-33 by the Tigers (4-1). Princeton shot 50.8 percent (32-63) from the field, knocking down seven threes.
Princeton's Michelle Miller had a game-high 21 points in 12 minutes of action. She also added six rebounds and three blocks. Annie Tarakchian recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-best 11 rebounds. Amanda Berntsen totaled nine points, eight rebounds and six assists in the win.
UCI will play at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, facing the loser of the Seattle U and Loyola Marymount game that will begin at 3:30.
