Box Score Irvine, Calif. – All 12 players scored and grabbed at least one rebound in UC Irvine's 91-50 exhibition win over La Verne at the Bren Events Center Tuesday.
Tayla Jackson, Raelyn Cheung-Sutton, Mckenzie Piper and Brittany Glassow each scored 11 points to lead the Anteaters. Shereen Sutherland and Teirra Hicks also added nine points. Piper led the squad in rebounding with nine followed by Mokun Fajemisin and Arianna Knox with seven.
The Anteaters dominated the glass, outrebounding the Leopards 61-37.
La Verne was led by Kayla Chism with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Emily Myers recorded 10 points and led all players with 10 rebounds.
UCI used a three-pointer by Jenny Dee and a layup by Raelyn Cheung Sutton to build a 19-8 lead with 2:11 to play in the first period. The Leopards would cut the margin to 20-12 to end the quarter.
UCI scored seven of the last eight points of the first half to go in to the locker room with a 40-22 advantage.
The Anteaters continued to cruise in the second half extending the lead to 66-35 at the end of third period. Cheung-Sutton, Mckenzie Piper and Tayla Jackson each hit a three-pointer in the period.
UCI will open the regular season hosting St. John's Sunday (Nov. 15) at 2:00 p.m. at the Bren Events Center. Fans are encouraged to come early as a large soccer tournament on Crawford Field may impact parking in the Mesa Structure.
