October 07, 2015 | Women's Basketball
Irvine, Calif. -- Ashlee Klingenberg has been named Director of Operations for the UC Irvine women's basketball program.
"We are excited to have Ashlee join us," head coach Doug Oliver said. "Her personality and skill-set fits perfectly with our staff and we are looking forward to using her experience to enhance our team."
Klingenberg comes to UCI from Seattle University where she served as an assistant to head coach Joan Bonvicini during the 2014-15 season. As a member of the Redhawks staff she was responsible for scheduling, practice plans, film, alumni outreach as well as social media and camps.
In 2013, Klingenberg was named Associate Head Coach at Wilcox High School where the Chargers finished with a 23-3 record and lost in the semi-final round of the CIF State Playoffs. Klingenberg coached six players to All-SCVAL honors including League MVP, Junior of the Year and two first-team players.
Prior to Wilcox, Klingenberg served as an assistant coach at Leland High School. In her first season, Leland finished third in the Blossom Valley Athletic League (BVAL) and had five players receive All-BVAL honors, including two named to the first-team. In addition to her on-court duties, Klingenberg was directly responsible for coordinating Leland's Breast Cancer Awareness game, multiple volunteer outings and the end of season awards banquet.
Originally from Bakersfield, Calif., Klingenberg was prepped at Liberty High School, leading her team to three consecutive South Sequoia League Championships. The two-year team captain was named second-team All-SSL in her senior year and honorable mention as a junior.
Staying close to home, she attended Bakersfield Junior College where she helped the Renegades to a runner-up Western State Conference championship finish, the highest conference place the Renegades had reached in five seasons. She ranked No. 4 in the South Region in three-pointers made (63) and No. 23 in points per game (11.2 ppg).
Ashlee transferred to San Jose State University in 2005 where graduated with a degree in Business Marketing in 2008. Due to injury her playing career was cut short.
Following graduation from San Jose State, Klinenberg worked in the tech industry at Brocade where she served as a product manager working on competitive analysis, pricing, contract negotiations and portfolio management before starting her coaching career.
