The Anteaters will host Occidental in an exhibition game Tuesday (Nov. 3) at 7:30 p.m. at the Bren Events Center.
UCI returns 10 players from the 2014-15 squad, including forward Mokun Fajemisin and guards Raelyn Cheung-Sutton and Irene Chavez.
Fajemisin was named All-Big West second team a year ago after averaging 12.2 points and 7.6 rebounds overall as well as a league-leading 2.13 blocks in conference games. She ranked 11th in scoring and third in re-bounding among Big West players last season.
Fajemisin finished last season with 54 blocks which was good for fifth all-time in the UCI season record books.
Cheung-Sutton led the league in assist/turnover ratio (1.73) and is the Big West returning leader in assists (4.75).
Chavez led the team in three-pointers, draining 38. She was second on the team in scoring with an 8.5 mark and topped the squad in scoring on eight occasions. She posted double-figure scoring 12 times, including a career-high 24 versus Cal Poly (2/28).
Forward Shereen Sutherland was third on the team in scoring with an 8.2 scoring and 4.8 rebounding mark. She came on strong at the end of the year, recording double-digit points in eight of the final 12 games. She had a career-best 21 points in the Big West Tournament game against UC Davis.
Returning to bolster the Anteaters this season is redshirt Mckenzie Piper. The 6-0 forward sat out last season after transferring from Illinois.
UCI will once again play a majority of its non-conference schedule on the road, playing nine of its 14 non-league games away from Irvine.
The Anteaters will face seven opponents that are coming off post-season appearances (NCAA, WNIT) a year ago with six teams that sported 20-win seasons.
Highlighting the schedule will be a meeting with Princeton, who went 31-1 last season, and showdowns with local foes UCLA (Dec. 16) and USC (Dec. 28).
The Anteaters will spend the Thanksgiving weekend at the Loyola Marymount Tournament for the third consecutive year.
UCI finished the 2014-15 campaign with an 8-24 record overall. The Anteaters were 5-11 in Big West play, ending the year tied for seventh place in the league standings.
UCI will take on La Verne Nov. 10 for the final exhibition tune-up before the regular season opener against St. John's Nov. 15.
