Herkins, Stowell Join UC Irvine Baseball Staff

IRVINE, Calif. --- Former Anteater baseball players, Jon Herkins and Bryce Stowell have joined the UC Irvine baseball staff as undergraduate volunteer assistant coaches.

Herkins was an outfielder with the Anteaters in 2013-14. He played in 34 games in two years and drove in a pair of runs on five hits and scored six. Herkins is working towards a degree in social ecology.

Stowell, also a social ecology major, was a pitcher for the team in 2007-08. After utilizing a redshirt year in '07, the right-hander went 8-3 the following year, striking out 101 in 88.1 innings and pitching in three combined shutouts. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 22nd round.

The addition of Herkins and Stowell brings the number of Anteaters on the coaching staff to six. Mike Gillespie (USC, '62) enters his ninth season at the helm of the UCI staff and is joined by assistant coaches, Ben Orloff ('09), Daniel Bibona ('10) and Eric Deragisch ('09) and Director of Operations, Evan Brock ('14). The six Anteaters have a combined 19 years of NCAA postseason experience stemming from their time as a UCI student-athlete.
