Box Score 2 DAVIS, Calif. --- Men's soccer dropped its second overtime heartbreaker of the weekend falling 2-1 at UC Davis Saturday afternoon.
UC Irvine (2-8-3, 0-3-1) got a big goal in the 84th minute to save the match for the moment and send it to overtime thanks to Ivan Canales tracking across the box and finishing inside the left post.
UC Davis (6-6-1, 2-1-1) took the lead in the 16th minute as a through ball found its way to Matt Wiesenfarth who chipped it by Michael Breslin from a tough angle to make it 1-0 early for the Aggies.
The finishing blow came in the 98th minute as Lucas Mohageg flicked on a pass into the box from Justin Wright to make it 2-1.
The match's big moment seemed to come in the 55th minute as Mats Bjurman streaked into the box and drew a foul putting him in on the spot for a PK. UCD keeper Armando Quezada kept him out, however, saving the attempt to retain the one-goal lead for the moment.
The loss drops keeps the Anteaters winless in conference play at 0-3-1, and they have lost twice and earned a draw in the last three matches, all needing overtime.
Breslin turned away four shots in net, while the offense put eight of their 13 shots on target. For the weekend, the squad put an impressive 24 of 33 shots on frame.
Canales' goal ties him atop the team with four goals alongside Eduardo Calzada, and gives him 12 points making him the outright leader.
The assist on the goal went to Jaime Phillips, his team-leading fifth, and gives him points in six consecutive matches posting 11 points in that span.
The remainder of the regular season will be filled with Big West South matchups beginning with Wednesday's match in Anteater Stadium against UC Riverside starting at 7:00 p.m.
