'Eaters in Third at Nick Watney Invitational

 

FRESNO, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team is in third place following the first day of action in the Nick Watney Invitational at Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno.

The Anteaters have a 36-hole score of 5-under 571 following Monday's first two rounds in UCI's season-opening tournament.  Pacific leads at 551 and host Fresno State is in second place at 568.

UCI senior Pete Fernandez is in fourth place after shooting 5-under 139 on rounds of 70-69 on the par-72 layout.  Pacific's Byron Meth is in first at 135 (70-65).

Anteater teammates Jacob Schulze and Bryan Shin are tied for 11th place at 143.  Schulze carded rounds of 71-72 and Shin 68-75.

Freshman David Kim is in 31st after shooting 147 (74-73) and senior Bhuvan Potluri is 38th at 148 (73-75).

UCI freshman Jonathan Young, competing as an individual, is 26th at 146 (70-76).

The final round is Tuesday with the 'Eaters teeing off beginning at 8:50 a.m.
