Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. --- UC Irvine finished its treacherous east coast trek with a 1-1 draw against the sixth-ranked team in the nation, Georgetown, Sunday at Shaw Field.
Georgetown (2-1-3) got on the board first with a goal in the 33rd minute. MAC Hermann trophy watch list member Brandon Allen showed why he's on that list putting away a shot after Bakie Goodman and Christopher Lema won a ball back to start the attack.
The Hoyas were seemingly in command going into the half with advantages in possession, shots (7-3), and corner kicks (6-2).
Georgetown started the second half out strong with more scoring chances, but UC Irvine (4-0-1) was able to strike next. Gor Kirakosyan fed Mats Bjurman on a counter-attack to even the match at 1-1 in the 73rd minute.
The score would hold through the rest of the half forcing UCI's first overtime match of the season.
Georgetown upped its attack turning four of its five overtime shots on target, but was met by Michael Breslin to keep the draw intact. The 'Eaters matched them in shots, but had no luck either as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Anteaters remain unbeaten on the season now at 4-0-1, and run its unbeaten streak against ranked opponents to nine games, 8-0-1, in the regular season.
Bjurman's goal was his second of the season. Kirakosyan's assist was his second.
Cameron Iwasa accounted for half of UCI's shots (6) and shots on goal (2).
Breslin stopped four of his seven saves in the match in the overtime periods alone. He also doubled his season total up to 14 saves.
The 'Eaters return to southern California next week, but continue its road run heading to Loyola Marymount for a 7:00 p.m. match, Thursday, Sept. 18.
