
2014 Men's Cross Country Schedule Released

IRVINE, Calif. --- A talented group of returning runners are in place for head coach Jeff Perkins and the UC Irvine men's cross country team as they prepare to take on the 2014 schedule.
The Anteaters open the season hosting the adidas/UCI Invitational Sept. 6 at the Anteater Recreation Center Fields. UCI then competes in the Mustang Challenge at Santa Clarita Sept. 20, the Stanford Invitational Sept. 27, the Vanguard Invitational at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa Oct. 11, the Highlander Invitational in Riverside Oct. 18, and the Titan Invitational at Cal State Fullerton Oct. 24.
The Big West Conference Championship is at UC Riverside Nov. 1, the NCAA West Regional is at Stanford Nov. 14 with the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., Nov. 22.
Senior Steven Melena, a redshirt last season, finished fourth in the 2012 Big West Conference Championship and senior Alex Tebbe placed 29th in last year's conference meet and was UCI's top runner at the NCAA West Regional.
Sophomore Isaiah Thompson was named Big West Freshman of the Year last season when he placed 13th in the league meet. Also in the mix for the 'Eaters is redshirt junior Munir Kahssay, who was 2012 South Coast Conference champion while competing at Cerritos College.
Perkins is in his first season as the Anteaters' head cross country coach after taking over leadership of the track and field programs last Jan. 1 from Vince O'Boyle, who retired after 32 years at UCI.
