IRVINE, Calif. --- Michael Wilder, a highly-respected and popular student-athlete while attending UC Irvine, has been named Director of Administration for the Anteater men's basketball program.
Wilder, who played at UCI from 2009-13, will oversee video operations, monitor player academics, maintain the recruiting database, work with donor and alumni outreach, and coordinate the boys' basketball summer camp program.
"I am very blessed and excited for the opportunity to come back and be a part of the program that I poured my heart and soul into as a player," Wilder said. "We are in a great position to do great things, not only this year but for years to come, and I am ready to continue to help contribute to the success of the program and the university."
In the Anteater career record book, Wilder ranks No. 3 in UCI history in three-point field goals (224), 14th in rebounds (596) and assists (272), and 22nd in points (1,082). He played in 126 games during his career.
Wilder was named to the All-Big West Conference second team as a junior when he led the 'Eaters in scoring at 11.5 points per game.
As a senior, he hit a game-winning three in a victory over UC Santa Barbara and he scored a team-high 18 points (16 in the second half) in an 88-85 road win at UC Davis when UCI overcame a 19-point halftime deficit.
Wilder played professionally last year in Spain.
"It is great to be able to add such a well-known, well-liked and quality person like Mike to our staff," UCI head coach Russell Turner said. "After playing professionally for one year, he is able to bring many elements to our program and he is such a positive ambassador for the university."
Ryan Schlaich, who is in his second year with the UCI staff, has assumed the program's Director of Operations duties as Mike Lenahan accepted a position as assistant coach at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.
