Anteater Pitching Duo Named ABCA All-American; Trio Voted All-West Region

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine right-handers Andrew Morales and Sam Moore have been recognized as American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Americans and are joined by Jonathan Munoz on the All-West Region team.
Morales received an All-America first-team nod while Sam Moore collected third-team honors. The pair earned a spot on the ABCA All-West Region first team while Munoz was a second team choice.
The Anteaters ended the 2014 campaign with their second College World Series appearance. Morales, the Big West Pitcher of the Year, was 11-2 on the mound. The senior, a second-round draft pick by the St. Louis Cardinals, boasted a 1.53 ERA and struck out 141 in 135.2 innings. He limited teams to a .185 batting average while hurling three complete games, including a shutout that clinched the series against Oklahoma State at the Stillwater Super Regional. Morales was voted an All-American by several baseball publications and most recently was the winner of the Senior CLASS Award. He leaves UC Irvine with a 21-2 record and is the only Anteater to post a career sub-2.00 ERA at 1.68.
Moore was the Gregg Olson "Breakout Player of the Year" Award winner after emerging as one of the nation's top closers. The junior recorded 23 saves and made 32 appearances. Sporting a 1.85 earned run average, Moore struck out 39 in 43.2 innings and yielded nine earned runs. A 40th-round pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Moore received National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) first-team All-America recognition.
Munoz claimed the designated hitter's role for the Anteaters and helped UCI to a 41-25 record. The redshirt sophomore batted .281 with 47 hits and 19 RBI. He was third on the team with 10 doubles and also scored 21 runs to earn a spot on the All-Big West first-team. Munoz was sixth on the team with 10 multiple-hit games and sported a nine-game hitting streak for a personal best.
