OMAHA, Neb. --- Andrew Morales was named an All-American for the third time this year after earning a spot on the Perfect Game first team.
Morales, the lone Big West representative on the first team, was the conference's Pitcher of the Year and led UCI to its second College World Series appearance. The right-hander is the national leader in strikeouts with 141 and in starts with 19. Morales is 20th in the country in ERA at 1.53 and is holding teams to a .185 batting average. Allowing just 5.90 hits per nine innings, Morales is ranked 12th in the country and with 11 wins on the year, sits 13th among the national leaders. The 71st overall pick of the St. Louis Cardinals this year, Morales has also registered three complete games, including hurling one that sealed the series against Oklahoma State in the Stillwater Super Regional.
UC Irvine faces Texas tonight at 7:00 p.m. (CT) in an elimination game at TD Ameritrade Park.
