OMAHA, Neb. --- Sam Moore and Andrew Morales continued to collect All-America recognition with Moore tabbed a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) first-team choice and Morales coming away with a Baseball America second-team nod as well as an NCBWA third-team award.
Moore, the national leader in saves with 23, is one of three relievers on the first-team. The right-hander owns a 1.88 ERA and has registered 38 strikeouts in 43 innings while pitching in three combined shutouts. He has made 31 appearances this year and has already rewritten the UC Irvine and Big West season records and is vying for the NCAA mark of 24. Moore is a finalist for the Gregg Olson "Breakout Player of the Year" award and was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2014 Major League First-Year Player Draft.
Morales, the 2014 Big West Pitcher of the Year, improved to 11-2 after sealing UCI's win over Oklahoma State in the Stillwater Super Regional with a 1-0 complete-game win last weekend. He was named an NCAA All-Tournament pitcher at the Corvallis Regional and is now 21-2 all-time with the Anteaters. Boasting a 1.53 ERA, Morales is currently tied for first in the country with 136 strikeouts. Limiting teams to a .182 batting average, he has hurled three complete games while surrendering 22 earned runs in 129.2 innings of work. Morales, a Senior CLASS Award finalist, was the 71st overall pick by the St. Louis Cardinals.
The duo lead the Anteaters this Saturday in the College World Series opener against Texas at 12:00 p.m PT/2:00 p.m. CT.
