Water Polo Australia Press Release

BRISBANE, Australia --- UC Irvine alums Mitch Wise and Brandon Johnson will meet in a semifinal of the Australia National Water Polo League Finals Series Saturday.

Wise plays for the Victorian Seals and Johnson the UWA Torpedoes.

Wise scored a pair of goals for the Seals in their 15-13, upset win over the No. 1-ranked UNSW Wests Magpies Friday.  He helped lead the Seals to two wins over the Fyfe Adelaide Jets last weekend to claim the last spot in the NWPL Finals Series.

A three-time All-American for the 'Eaters, Wise scored 80 goals as a senior this past fall and 242 in his UCI career. 

He will receive the Outstanding Student-Athlete Award at the 44^th Lauds & Laurels ceremony, sponsored by the UCI Alumni Association, Thursday (May 15) at the UC Irvine Student Center.  The event honors outstanding members of the UC Irvine community for their service to the university, the community or their profession.

Johnson, who also earned All-America honors three times for UCI, scored three goals for the UWA Torpedoes in their 12-10 victory over the Fremantle Mariners.

Johnson scored 196 goals in his Anteater career from 2007-10.

Another 'Eater alum in NWPL semifinals is Greg Enloe, whose Sydney University Lions face the UNSW Wests Magpies Saturday.  Enloe netted 95 goals for UCI from 2006-09.

UCI alum Cole Bitter is a member of the Brisbane Barracudas, who meet the Fremantle Mariners in the 5^th vs. 6^th game.  Bitter played for the 'Eaters from 2004-07.
