IRVINE, Calif. --- Several freshmen turned in strong performances for UC Irvine in the 20th adidas/Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium Saturday.
Lloyd Sicard finished third of 27 competitors in the 400-meter hurdles in 51.71, the No. 5 time in UCI history. Brandon Howard, another freshman, placed sixth in 52.94.
Sicard was eighth of 31 in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.07, also fifth-fastest in the Anteater record book.
Freshman Isaiah Thompson finished third of 70 runners in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:48.50.
Thompson placed seventh of 66 competitors in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 1:49.87, just shy of making UCI's Top 10 list.
Charles Jock, a former UCI All-American and 2012 NCAA champion, won the 800 meters in 1:47.61.
Senior Stephen Brown was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 16-6 ¾, which ranks No. 6 all-time at UCI.
Junior Mason Miller finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 55-9 ¾.
UCI's 4x400 relay of Howard, James Douglas, Duane Solomon and Sicard finished second with a season-best time of 3:13.29.
Daniel Stahl of Global Throw set an Anteater Stadium record in the discus throw with a mark of 219-5, the top mark in the world this year.
The 'Eaters are expected to have some competitors at the Oxy Invitational next Saturday (May 10).
The Big West Conference Track & Field Championships are in Davis May 16-17.
