FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- Junior Itos Aikhionbare posted UC Irvine's top finish Thursday on the first day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Fayetteville, Ark.
She finished 14th of 48 in the shot put with a mark of 51-8 ½ that she recorded on the first of her six attempts. Aikhionbare just missed finishing in the top 12 who qualified for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14.
She competes Friday in the discus throw that begins at 1:00 p.m. (PT). Aikhionbare set the school record this season with a mark of 170-2.
Also on Thursday, senior Ericka Nowell (400-meter hurdles) and Lacey Surak (javelin) did not advance.
