LA JOLLA, Calif. --- Freshman Lloyd Sicard played a role in 27 team points for UC Irvine at the Cal/Nevada Championships that concluded Saturday at UC San Diego.
He captured first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.60 while teammates Duane Solomon was fifth in 53.85 and Kyle Hubbard ninth in 56.11 to also garner team points.
UCI finished fifth with 68 points in the 23-team competition. Long Beach State won the meet with 164 ½ points.
Sicard placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.38 and senior James Douglas was sixth in 14.73.
Isaiah Thompson, another freshman, finished fourth in the 800 meters in 1:51.89 and Tommy Newton-Neal placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:24.95.
Mason Miller's mark of 160-6 was seventh in the discus throw and Mike Kennedy finished eighth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.98.
UCI's 4x100 relay of Sicard, Douglas, Kennedy and Brandon Howard finished fourth in 41.61 and the 4x400 relay of Cameron Vaca, Howard, Sicard and Douglas placed sixth with a time of 3:17.22.
Anteater Stadium is site of the Big West Challenge Cup Friday with field events starting at 2:00 p.m. and the first running event at 6:00 p.m.
