Lacey Surak Closes in on School Record

 

NORWALK, Calif. --- Senior Lacey Surak won the javelin throw to lead UC Irvine at the 20th annual Beach Invitational Saturday at Cerritos College.

Surak won the event with a career-best mark of 166-0 as she closes in on the school record of 167-2 set by Laura Mills in 1985.

Surak has improved on her previous best mark by 17 feet in the last two days.

Freshman Megan George placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.00 and teammate Megan Benson was eighth in 14.44.

George also competed in the 100 hurdles invitational race, finishing fifth in 14.26.

Kaulyn Lee-McNeill was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 60.58 and Itos Aikhionbare finished fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 167-11.

In the 5,000 meters, Alice Yang and Carlotta Pham finished 10th and 11th in 18:55.55 and 18:16.34, respectively.
