Box Score 3 Fort Worth, Texas -- TCU toppled UC Irvine 78-56 at the University Recreation Center Tuesday.
Free throws and rebounds were the key to TCU's success as the Horned Frogs went 20-25 from the line and out-rebounded UCI 49-29. The Anteaters were just 3-10 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore forward Mokun Fajemisin led the Anteaters with 15 points and seven rebounds. Sophomores Shereen Sutherland and Irene Chavez each added eight points off the bench. Senior guard Madison McKenney added five points, while junior Raelyn Cheung-Sutton had a game-high six assists to go with four points.
All 10 UCI players scored at least two points.
TCU's Veja Hamilton went 11-14 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line for a game-high 24 points. Zahna Medley had 13 points and Donielle Breux recorded 12 points for the Horned Frogs. Natalie Ventress pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
UCI held a 19-13 lead on an Irene Chavez basket at10:17 before the Horned Frogs closed the half on a 29-13 run which included five three-pointers and 12 points from Veja Hamilton and went in to the locker room with a 42-32 advantage.
UCI trailed by nine (51-42) with 12:37 remaining when the Horned Frogs scored 15 straight to open a 63-45 gap at 7:15. TCU went 15-18 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes on the way to the victory.
UCI will host Concordia and in the final regular season non-conference game Sunday (Jan. 4) at 4:00 p.m. at the Bren Events Center.
