Alex Young Earns Big West Player of Week Award

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior guard Alex Young has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week following his game-winning performance last week.

Young scored 18 points and hit the game-winning jumper with 1.7 seconds left to lift the Anteaters over Green Bay, 72-70, in the championship game of the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas last Monday.  For his efforts, he was named the Classic's Most Outstanding Player.

He added eight assists for the second-highest total in his career.  Green Bay was ranked No. 4 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll at the time.

This is the first Big West weekly honor for Young in his Anteater career.  He ranks fourth in UCI history with 343 assists.

Young, from Phoenix, Ore. (Phoenix HS) is playing in his home state tonight as UCI takes on Oregon at 8:00 p.m. in Eugene.
