Iwasa, Sperber, Calzada Best in the West
December 10, 2014 | Men's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine's season continues to be acknowledged with a trio of Anteaters making the All-West Region squad in Cameron Iwasa, Michael Sperber, and Eduardo Calzada.
Iwasa scored first team honors following a six goal-six assist season. He's the first since Miguel Ibarra in 2011 to make the first team, and seventh overall.
Sperber used impeccable defending along with a timely strike with his first and only goal to upset No. 6 Stanford in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to flex his skill in the 2014 season. His second team nod joins Marco Franco and Enrique Cardenas who did it last year, the fifth honor of its kind.
Calzada rounded out the trio on the third team after leading the squad with seven goals and tying the team lead with 18 points and three game-winning goals. He's the sixth Anteater to make the third team joining Tarek Morad who did it last year.
It's the second time the 'Eaters have earned three honorees joining last year's squad making it 19 overall selections by 17 different players.
