Box Score Irvine, Calif. – UC Irvine had four players score in double-figures as the Anteaters defeated Cal Lutheran, 77-63 in an exhibition game at the Bren Events Center Tuesday.
Freshman Jenny Dee, sophomore Shereen Sutherland and senior Madison McKenney each posted 15 points in the victory. Dee knocked down 4-6 from three-point range, while Sutherland went 5-10 from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds. McKenney was also hot from the field, hitting 6-9, including two three-pointers. Sophomore Mokun Fajemisin added 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Freshman Brittany Glassow had a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior Raelyn Cheung-Sutton totaled six points and Tierra Hicks recorded five points. Guard Irene Chavez had a team-best four assists.
Cal Lutheran was led by Jessica Salottolo and Chelsea Jacoby with 14 points, apiece. Salottolo and Katy Lindor had a team-high nine rebounds. The Regals out-rebounded UCI, 42-38.
UCI jumped out to a quick 10-1 lead with the help of four points by Brittany Glassow and three points by Mokun Fajemisin. Cal Lutheran would go on a 13-4 run and tie the game at 14-14 all with a free throw by Chelsea Jacoby at 11:58. The Regals would knock down three three-pointers in the span of a minute to open a 25-19 advantage at 8:57. After Cal Lutheran led by eight at 5:46, the Anteaters would score the last 12 points of the half to go in to the locker room with the 33-29 lead.
UCI continued the first half momentum going on a 16-4 run which was capped by a Madison McKenney three-pointer at 15:23 (49-33). Cal Lutheran would close to 61-58 before McKenney would score back-to-back jumpers to extend the lead to 65-58 at 3:33.
The Anteaters shot 51.6 percent (16-31) in the second half, going 5-8 from three-point range.
UCI will host Chapman in its final exhibition game Saturday (Nov. 8) at 4:00 p.m. in the Bren Events Center.
