South Dakota Dominates UC Irvine, 96-52

Vermillion, SD – South Dakota made the most of its home opener, beating UC Irvine, 96-52, at the DakotaDome Monday night.

South Dakota's 96 points were the most allowed by UCI since Sacramento State outlasted UCI 99-94 on December 14, 2013. The 44 point deficit was the largest margin of defeat since Arizona State topped the Anteaters, 75-23 on Dec. 6, 2008.

A Methlyn Onogomuho jumper at 12:31 gave UCI a 14-13 lead, before the Coyotes would out-score the Anteaters 23-4 to open a 36-18 advantage at 6:11. South Dakota's Raeshel Contreras and Nicole Seekamp would each score 16 points in the first 20 minutes as the Coyotes would lead 56-31 at the half. USD shot 53.8% from the floor, including hitting six three-pointers in the first period.

The Coyotes would out-score UCI 40-21 in the second half on the way to the 96-52 victory. USD would score 19 points off 19 UCI turnovers and convert 17 points on second chances.

Sophomore forward Mokun Fajemisin lead UCI with 15 points followed by senior forward Methlyn Onogomuho with a season-high 13 points. Redshirt freshman Brittany Glassow topped the team with five rebounds. Senior guard Madison McKenney added eight points.

The Anteaters shot 32.8 percent (19-58) from the floor and were shut out of threes (0-9). The Coyotes were 34-68 (50%) from the field, knocking down 9-22 from three-point distance. USD out-rebounded UCI 51-30.

South Dakota was led by Raeschel Contreras, who totaled 24 points, including four three-pointers. Nicole Seekamp went 9-11 from the floor for 22 points and had a game-high seven assists. Off the bench, Kate Liveringhouse had 15 points and Heidi Hoff added 10 points. Lisa Loeffler grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

UCI falls to 1-4 overall, while South Dakota improves to 3-2.

The Anteaters will participate in the DoubleTree LA Westside Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Loyola Marymount beginning Friday (Nov. 27) with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Bowling Green.
