UC Irvine in Sixth at Southern Dunes Invitational

 

MARICOPA, Ariz. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team is in sixth place after the first day of action in the Cowboy Southern Dunes Collegiate Invitational at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.

UCI shot a two-round total of 593 Saturday and is tied with Northern Colorado for sixth place.  Idaho leads the field with a 36-hole score of 566 and USF is second at 587 in the tournament hosted by the University of Wyoming.

Anteater senior Pete Fernandez is in third place at 3-under par 141 on rounds of 71-70 over the course that measures 7,517 yards.

Sophomore Bryan Shin is in 18th place at 146 (71-75), junior Jacob Schulze is 31st at 152 (76-76), freshman Jonathan Young is 35th at 154 (78-76) and freshman David Kim is 37th at 156 (80-76).   Senior Bhuvan Potluri, competing individually, is in 33rd place at 153 (78-75).

Idaho's Jared du Toit (69-68) and Arizona State's Mathias Schjoelberg (71-66) are tied for the individual lead at 7-under 137.

The final round is scheduled for Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m.
