UC Irvine Loses On The Road At Cal State Fullerton, 75-58

Fullerton, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton defeated UC Irvine 75-58 at Titan Gym Thursday.

The Anteaters (8-9, 1-2) were led by Jennifer Tsurumoto for the third consecutive game with 18 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Junior forward Methlyn Onogomuho recorded seven points and a team-high nine rebounds. Seniors Kelly Meggs,Vanessa Aguilar and Camille Buckley also added seven points, while Lauren Spinazze, Jasmine Bernard and Madison McKenney each tossed in four points.

The Anteaters hit a season-low four three-pointers in 22 attempts (18.2%) and were just 10-16 from the free throw line.

Cal State Fullerton (6-9, 2-0) was led by Alex Thomas with 22 points followed by Tailer Butler who knocked down six three-pointers to record 18 points. Chante Miles pitched in 12 points and Kathleen Iwuoha had 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. The Titans fired 21 assists on 28 made baskets. Cal State Fullerton shot 50 percent from the field for the game. CSF ended the game with 13 three-pointers.

UCI led 10-9 to start the game before the Titans went on a 14-2 run, including four consecutive three-pointers to open a 23-12 advantage at 10:55. Cal State Fullerton would score nine in a row to take the largest lead of the half, 32-16 at 7:31. A 6-1 run by the Anteaters narrowed the margin to 39-29 at the half. The Titans shot 51.9 percent from the floor (14-27), including seven three-pointers in the first 20 minutes.

Cal State Fullerton would score the first six points of the half and open an 45-29 margin with 18:38 remaining and never looked back as UCI would only get as close as 11 points the rest of the game.

UCI remains on the road next week, traveling to Cal State Northridge (Jan. 23) at 7:00 p.m. in the Matadome.
