UC Irvine Downs UC Davis, 12-11, in Overtime

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. --- Freshman Kyle Trush scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 1:01 left in overtime to lift UC Irvine past UC Davis, 12-11, in the NorCal Tournament at Diablo Valley College Sunday.

Trush's goal gave the 'Eaters (10-1) a 12-10 lead before Austin Beckwith of UC Davis closed out the scoring with 40 seconds remaining in the second three-minute overtime period.

Trush scored with 52 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime at 10-10.

Mitch Wise scored his fifth goal of the day with 2:41 left in the first overtime session to give UCI an 11-10 lead before Trush followed with the game-winner in the second extra period.

Alan Robertson also scored a pair of goals for the 'Eaters in the back-and-forth game.

UCI led 7-6 at halftime but the Aggies forged ahead 9-8 following the third period.

Wise tied the game at 9-9 early in the fourth quarter but UC Davis' Teddy Nicholson put the Aggies ahead at the 4:53 mark, setting up the equalizer by Trush late in regulation.

Anteater head coach Marc Hunt noted Trush's offensive heroics, but said "his biggest impact was on the defensive side of the ball."

UCI faces Loyola Marymount at 6:15 p.m. in the ninth-place game.
