SPENCER NAMED ESPN ZONE ANAHEIM ANTEATER OF THE WEEK
Irvine, Calif. -- UC Irvine men's baseball player Connor Spencer has been named this week's ESPN Zone Anaheim Anteater of the Week.
Spencer, the UC Irvine first basemen from had a clutch game winning performance for the No. 19 ranked 'Eaters on Sunday. He came up in the bottom of the ninth, trailing 3-2, with the bases loaded, and down to the last strike. Spencer jumped on a 1-2 pitch and doubled it to right-centerfield to lift UC Irvine to a 4-3 win over UC Davis at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark. The victory helped the Anteaters finish off the three game sweep over the Aggies this weekend. Spencer also hit .385 (5-13) finishing with four RBI in the series. For the season Spencer leads the Big West in batting with a .385 average and a .466 on-base percentage. He is second in hits with 58, and with 13 doubles in the Big West.
The Anteaters hit the road this week, first up, UCLA Tues. Apr. 30, before traveling to UC Santa Barbara for a three game series beginning on Friday May 3. First pitch for Friday is 3:00 p.m., followed by 2:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday.
