IRVINE, Calif. --- The UC Irvine Women's soccer program took part in their annual alumni game on Saturday, March 16th. This year's turn out brought forth new faces as well as old pictures of the 1990-1991 team. There was a great turnout of players, family, and friends all showing their support for past and present players. The 2013 squad was also on display in the match as the program approaches its 30th anniversary.
Players from several different eras were represented such as Frankee Kelly (2007), Dawn Evans Smith (1991), and Milana Shabestari (2010). The current 2013 squad came out with pace and energy that was difficult for the older alumni to handle. This however didn't stop the alumni from creating their own scoring chances and challenging the young 2013 team. The current squad came away with the 2-0 victory, but the goaltending skills of athletic trainer Mike Burns kept the alumni in the match.
"It was so exciting to see so many UC Irvine legends come out to the game this year. Their support is so important to the growth of our program and we cant wait to see them all back for our alumni weekend in the fall." – Head Coach Scott Juniper
