IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's water polo dished out a rude Big West greeting to the host Aztecs in their first Big West match as UCI earned a 6-5 victory Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex.
The 'Eaters (10-6, 1-0) jumped out in front with a pair of first period goals from Hannah Croghan and Cambria Shockley while also shutting down the Aztec attack for a period.
UCI extended the lead to 4-1 in the second period, but SDSU (10-6, 0-1) rallied for a pair of late goals to make it a one-goal affair at the half.
After the Aztecs tied it up, Michaela Pierandozzi helped UC Irvine regain the lead going into the fourth.
Croghan added another for a hat trick which turned out to be the deciding blow as UCI took the match, 6-5.
UCI extends its Big West conference regular season winning streak to 11 matches.
The Anteaters are back at it tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. match at UC San Diego
