
UC Irvine Ranked Third In Tight MPSF Coaches' Poll

Irvine, Calif. – UC Irvine garnered the most first place votes, but is ranked third in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Coaches' Poll released Thursday.
In one of the tightest preseason polls in MPSF history, Long Beach State and BYU share the top spot with 126 points and three first-place votes apiece. The back-to-back defending NCAA Champion Anteaters are in third, one point behind (125), receiving six first place votes which are twice as many top votes than the 49ers and Cougars.
Placing fourth in the poll with a first-place vote and just nine points from the top is UCLA (117), followed by Stanford in fifth with 99 points, Pepperdine in sixth with 90 points, UC Santa Barbara picked up 79 points for seventh, while USC's 74 points were eighth. Hawaii (51), Cal State Northridge (47), Pacific (38), UC San Diego (24), and Cal Baptist (18) rounded out this year's poll.
The MPSF Championship Tournament begins with quarterfinal action on April 19, hosted by the top-four seeds. The conference semifinals are on April 24, on the home floor of the best seeded team to win in the quarterfinal round. Semifinal winners battle for the April 26 championship, also played at the semifinal site, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line May 1 & 3 at Loyola-Chicago.
