IRVINE, Calif. --- The eighth-ranked Anteaters matched the Cardinal through one half of play, but fell victim to No. 4 Stanford's offensive attack in the second half falling 18-6 Friday night at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
Larson Pfeil got the scoring going two minutes in to give UCI (11-9, 0-4) the early 1-0 lead.
Stanford (15-4, 4-1) got a pair of goals from Brett Bonanni to tie up the match, 2-2, before the Cardinal went on a five-goal run lasting into the second period.
UC Irvine would cease some control of the match as Jacob Mourer would eventual score in the final minute of the half to cut the deficit to 8-5 midway through the match.
Stanford took over in the third period with seven consecutive goals and extending the lead to 10 before UCI would get on the board near the end of the period.
The Cardinal would tack on three more for a 10-1 scoring margin in the second half to finish the match up at 18-6.
Bonanni led all scorers with four on the night. Five other Stanford players tallied multiple goals as well.
Kyle Trush and Larson Pfeil led all 'Eaters with a pair of goals. Bo de Lange and Dylan Peterson split time in the cage stopping four shots between the two.
UCI returns to the pool Saturday Nov. 9 for a 1:00 p.m. match against UC San Diego.
