'Eaters Finish 2nd at Highlander Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Alex Tebbe and Riley Martin led the UC Irvine men's cross country team to a second-place finish in the Highlander Invitational at Riverside Saturday.
Tebbe finished sixth of 68 runners with a time of 17:55.4 over 6,000 meters at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course. Martin placed eighth in 17:59.9 as Luis Gutierrez, competing unattached, won the race in 17:37.6.
UCI's Tommy Newton-Neal was 14th in 18:24.1, Isaiah Thompson 15th in 18:24.6 and Conor Stanton 20th in 18:29.9.
Nolan Del Valle finished 23rd with a time of 18:33.0, Amir Shirif was 34th (18:51.9), Jake Williams 35th (18:55.6) and Blake Wanser was 45th in 19:08.2.
The 'Eaters finished with 45 points to place second in the team competition as Wyoming won the meet with 18 points. Cal State Fullerton was third with 78.
UCI competes in the Titan Invitational on the Cal State Fullerton campus Friday with the men's 8,000-meter race starting at 5:15 p.m.
